Death is the most hated and feared entity that exists. It causes a myriad of heartbreak and pierces the souls of everyone involved.
It’s no secret that the unknown terrifies humanity, and death is an unknown power for many.
The wages of sin is death and its main effect is to separate the person from God. But the Lord gave us a solution for that:
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23 NLT).
Death lost its hold on us, fear no more!
“ … For only as a human being could Jesus die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.” (Hebrews 2:14 NLT).
In the natural, the most terrible effect of death is the separation of loved ones, because God created us to be in community. And loneliness impairs our coping with our daily performance
God created us with a sense of belonging. And in our earthly journey we encounter enmities and strife that rob us of that God-given belonging. And suddenly, we find ourselves separated from where we belong. And we wonder what happened to that pleasant feeling of belonging?
What a Paradox!
If the main effect of death is to separate us from God and from each other, I see a perfect paradox. Funeral or memorial services bring together people who have not been in contact for years.
On that special occasion people’s hearts are tender and thoughtful to understand the reality of eternity. And they receive the gift of life, Jesus Christ, and of course, fear no more!
So now the main effect of death to separate us becomes a joke, because people who had lost contact with each other for a long time, are reunited in a new and fresh relationship.
So God’s purpose can never be frustrated! He created us for the community and we are in community!
However, the main separative effect of death has been defeated!
